BIG NEWS - "WE'RE" MOVING

The COMMENTS PLEASE blog has adopted Antonia.

She's now in his stable of writers. Not mine.
Oh well, that's show-biz.

My last posting (I think) is below.

(Those women, don't they make you psycho?)

Best wishes, Comment Blog. See you over there.

Is Antonia Conspirazoid?

Interview of the Future - The Candidate Prepares
I read some of the suggestions in the comments below and one person wanted me to predigest Antonia's postings before she could be moved to comment on them here.

Hey, lady, she's already predigesting the freakin' news for ya. Do I have to do it too?

Okay, you're right. You can't have too many filters. We're all busy men and women and someone has to boil opinion down to its absolute essence so we're to able to swallow enough of it to get our mental bearings.

Isn't that right? The blogosphere is the new Reader's Digest (a very popular magazine).

Anyway, I do have something to say about Antonia. In fact, I told her that I have the impression that she has an unsettling attraction to conspiracy theories and that it's only the fact that she's a rational person that holds her back from whole-hearted commitment.

Why would I think such a thing? Well, when I first met her at The Toronto Bloggers Bash, she made a point of telling Damian Penny that the 911 black box was never found. "What does that mean?" I thought. "Bush did it?"

Then a few weeks ago, she wrote something about the Bilderberg meetings that reinforced my impression of the love of the cabal.

She's says I'm wrong-headed. And, hey, maybe I'm one of those guys who make women psycho. (I can think of a few women who might agree). But the point here is: What do you think about her, not me.

I have to admit, this quote makes it look like I'm wrong,

My attitude is, the rich and powerful already run the world, most of them openly. Money always talked. People like this have connections and influence even if they don't get together for a behind-closed-doors chowdown and chatfest once a year.
But the spirit of the posting makes me feel I'm right. "Money talks". What does that mean? Who's supposed to have influence? The homeless? If the average jo decides to devote her time to a cause, she can do a hell of a lot. And, look, she might even get backing from George Soros (or Tereza Heinz Kerry).

You know what made me sick? Hearing that the Premier of Ontario charged developers ten thousand bucks to have dinner with him. Even though his government eventually went against their wishes, the impression of a payoff is hard to banish.

Stop Teasing

Headhuntress
Antonia wrote: Lastbook I bought:
Uh ... this is so embarrassing that I am not telling. Especially since it's the kind of, ahem, self-help book that I have always mocked my girlfriends for buying.

It's got "men'' and ''women'' in the title but no planets so it's not that bad. Every guy should read it because it will teach him everything that he needs to know about why women can seem so psycho sometimes.

I started wondering what book it is. So I went to Amazon.com. This one was my first pick but it doesn't have the right words in the title.

Cycle Secrets: A Guy's Roadmap
(In Case You Won't Ask for Directions)

So, I entered "man woman" in their search engine.
Here's some of the selections.

The Gospel of Germs: Men, Women, and the Microbe
(infections make you crazy?)

Strong Women and Men Beat Arthritis
(arthritis can make you psycho?)

Surviving Male Menopause. A Guide for Women and Men
(aging men drive women crazy?)

Men, Women, and Chain Saws
Men Are Like Waffles - Women Are Like Spaghetti
Men Are Clams Women Are Crowbars

I don't think so. So, I entered "woman crazy man". I got:

Drama Kings : The Men Who Drive Strong Women Crazy
Why Men Love Bitches
(wrong words but....)

Finally, I entered: "men women psycho".
And guess what came up?

Men and Women of the Corporation

I've got to admit, I'm stumped. But after looking at those titles, I don't want to know.

No, It's Not A Law Firm

This Blog Expands

Hear No Evil
Antonia has made a practice of noting other journalist bloggers who, like her, do not have comments on their blogs.

First she told us about Lorne Gunter of the National Post. No comments there, she said. And she was right.

Now she tells us that Andrew Coyne has disabled the comments option on his ever-changing blog. Right again.

What's that I hear? Opportunity knocking? Maybe. It's true this site struck out when it was just dedicated to Antonia. But, we didn't really market it well. And, that was only strike one anyway. Now, we're ready for Strike Two. So, here it goes.

Blog readers, if you've got any remarks about what these Canadian journalist bloggers are saying, you can make them elsewhere, of course, -- or you can say it here.

Who should we add for strike three? I don't think Frum has comments. And, he's still Canadian, isn't he?

General Comments Section

Hey, people, where's all the hate!

Newsweek starts riot
This blog was created because the high-priced shysters lawyers at the great and powerful Star believed that Antonia's blog would drive readers into such a frenzy that their comments could not be contained on the site of the great Star itself.

(Despite the fact that it hosts discussion boards for every other topic in the world.)

Well, I got news for them: ALL IS QUIET IS ZERBISTAN.

This is rigodamned-diculous. When Zerb said that more people than just her family were reading her blog and claimed that they were very upset that the Star was banning their comments, I saw a fantastic opportunity.

But it looks like Zerb was wrong. It was her family reading the blog and courtesy demanded only one day's viewing. Because the first day this blog was up was her second day and even though she she gave it a link - we only got 200 hits. Yesterday, no link: only 30 hits. Comments both days: next to none.

And that evil Star. On Monday they gave her a link at the top of the front page. Second day, it was still on the front page but I dare you to find it. Here's my advice: Antonia, you're in a fantastic position to claim prejudice against successful women. Just like Martha. Or Belinda.

Now there's something interesting: all of these names end in the vowel "a". That's definitely bloggable. And we thought Antonia would draw a lot of readers who would pick up on stuff like that. But, it looks like we were wrong. Antonia you're too well liked. Or the right-wing blogosphere is not as loony as it's made out to be.

Anyway, we don't need a separate posting to contain all of the comments on each of Antonia's entries. So, if you've got something to say, and I know you don't, you can put it here.

Star Bans Comments on Zerbisias Blog

Antonia writes:

Gagged
"Chief gripe is about the comments section. Why is it turned off? It's not a blog if there's no feedback....

Here's the deal. As I point out in my profile, the last thing we need is a flame war, or profane comments such as these, which will have the Star's libel lawyers billing us like mad.... "

"Personally, I would love an electronic free-for-all."

This blog will serve as an off-Star unofficial
comment section for Antonia Zerbisias' blog.

It is not related to her in any way
except in terms of subject matter.

If you want to argue a point, feel free.

But, please note: racism, real foul language,
hate speech, etc. are not allowed.

Credibility Flushed II

Newsweek - Why They Hate Us
"Now Newsweek has unequivocally retracted the Koran-in-the-toilet story, after saying that it was still investigating it."

Amazing Grace

"Legal attack dog Nancy Grace's nightly show debuted on CNN Headline News in mid-February, and promptly sent the channel's primetime ratings soaring 56 per cent and even higher."

Born Free

Free
"One thing some newspapers are discovering is that, in order to maximize your Google-ability, you need to be free."

What's more, there's an entire generation growing up believing not so much in freedom of information but in that information should be free."

Bushwhacked

Seems like you got yourself a bona-fide blog to bash America by the topics discussed. Bash baiting is what they are.

Biteback

I read your blog today and read why you have comments turned off. Since I have this quirky belief that comments are the fun part of blogging I only read blogs that accept comments. Good luck with your corporate blog.

If Not Now, When?

PBS' Now with Bill Moyers, which was not carried by Buffalo's WNED so I had to tape it from a time-shifted West-coast feed, was the hardest-hitting news show on U.S. TV.

Profit v. Public Interest

Could former Star publisher John Honderich have been taking aim at the corner offices at Torstar, which owns this paper, when he made this speech the other day?

Credibility Flushed

Newsweek apologized today for a report last week claiming that U.S. interrogators at Cuba's Guantanamo Bay, where 500 prisoners of the "War on Terror" are being held, desecrated the Koran.

Not surprisingly, some conservative/right-wing bloggers claim that Newsweek -- part of the so-called vast liberal media conspiracy -- rushed the unsubstantiated report to print just to make America look bad.

Now This Is Scary!

A survey of Americans to be released Monday reveals, among other things, that 43 per cent think that there's too! much! freedom of the press. Meanwhile, a mere three per cent of journalists agree.
